I don't think socialists have cornered the market on uncritically supporting a movement. The Republican and Democrat parties seem to do that just fine. The countries in Europe that have incorporated it most successfully are a lot happier and more functional than our government.
Oh I definitely agree that every movement has its uncritical supporters that are an anvil around the neck of any party or organization they are a part of. What I am trying to understand it, given that European countries have successfully implemented democratic socialism, why am I (and other Americans) so unwilling to identify myself that way.
